No sign of the 'Seven Year Itch'

Over the past seven years, I have had the wonderful privilege of hosting nettle fibre workshops, and it occurred to me the by now about 500 people have joined me in exploring the fascinating world of nettle fibre. That's right—500 passionate, creative, and enthusiastic individuals have come together to learn, create, and share in the joy of this ancient craft.

When I first started these workshops, my goal was simple: to share my love for nettle fibre and to revive an age-old textile tradition. What I didn’t anticipate was the overwhelming response and the amazing community that would grow from it. It’s been a joy to watch attendees transform raw nettle fibres into beautiful cordage, yarn, and unique creations. The best part? Seeing your creations come to life and hearing your stories about how these workshops have inspired you.

These workshops are more than just a fun way to spend a weekend—they’re an immersive experience in hands-on textile skills deeply rooted in nature and history. By working with plant fibres like nettle, we’re not only connecting with our land but also with a rich tapestry of textile traditions that span millennia. For about 30,000 years, humans have been crafting textiles from natural fibres, and it's incredibly rewarding to see this ancient practice continue through so many eager and talented hands. The skills we explore in these workshops—foraging, fibre processing and spinning yarn—are timeless. They connect us to our ancestors and to the land in a way that modern, synthetic materials simply cannot. Each workshop is a journey back in time, a chance to rediscover techniques that have been honed over thousands of years, and to bring them into our modern lives.

As I reflect on the last seven years, I feel incredibly humbled and I'm grateful to each and every one of you who has participated in these workshops. Your enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication have made this journey truly special. Whether you’ve attended one workshop or many, your contributions have kept this ancient tradition alive and thriving. Here is to another year of nettle fibre fun! I can't wait to see what we create together next. 🌿💚
